Moving Time

Wow, it's been AGES since we last wrote a blog entry.
Sorry about that folks! Here's an update on what's
going on with us.
We are moving out of our flat and in with Paul's parents this weekend while we wait for the sale of our house to go through. It's a tedious and slow-moving process and we have no idea when it will be ready, but we're hoping by the end of September. We'd like to move in with enough time to squeeze in a bbq or two before the cold weather permanently sets in. Not that there's been much of a summer here, but I digress.
Amelia is 15 months old now and a real toddler. She'll always be our baby, of course, but there is not much that is baby-like about her anymore. She's been walking for a couple months now and is pretty much off and running. She rarely falls down and is more confident each day. She loves going up and down stairs and insists that I help her practice as much as possible when we are at the playground slide. We meet up with my friend Paula and her little boy Aidan at least once a week and they just love playing together. Sadly, Paula and Aidan are moving back to New Zealand at the end of October so we'll have to find a new playmate, but I'm sure it won't be difficult. Amelia is so outgoing and friendly, she walks right up to other kids and adults and starts babbling away. She is very good at sharing, often offering her toys to others and rarely snatching them away from children's fingers. She even got a big hug and a kiss from a 2 year-old boy last week!
Millie also had her first haircut this month as it was getting in her eyes and very long around her ears. I foolishly forgot my camera but it was the tiniest of trims so I'll be sure to get pictures when she gets her first proper cut in the future. She was very good and held relatively still and didn't cry until the very end when I went to take the gown off of her and she tripped and fell. Doh! But she was a very brave girl overall.
Her verbal skills are coming along nicely and we're sure that more words are imminent. At the moment, she can say Hi, Bye, Baby, Mama, Meow, Baa, Please, Okay, and a very garbled Thank You and Dada. She screeches a lot if we're not paying attention to what she wants, which can be annoying (not to mention ear-shattering) but as soon as she gets more words, I'm sure her frustration and the screams will subside. She's still a happy, bubbly, easy-going toddler though, and we absolutely adore her.
We are off to Crete in the Greek Islands in a couple weeks, for David (Paul's brother) and Olia's wedding. We will be staying for 10 days and are sooooo looking forward to it. Sun, sand, beautiful scenery, great food, good people...it will be fantastic! It will be challenging having a toddler on a beach in the scorching heat (it was 110 degrees there this week!) but there are so many of us going that I know we'll manage. We will report back with stories and pictures as soon as we're back and settled.
Bon voyage!
P.S. -- look at June & July pics and movies, and Friends/Amity's 28th for the latest updates
