Whoa, it's been waaaaay too long since we've updated
this blog. Sorry folks! Now that things have settled
down a bit from the move and then the holidays, we
resolve to update you with pictures and words more
often. You'll see that we've put up new photos and
video clips so check them out. Be sure to watch the
Latest Movie too!
We had a great Christmas this year. Andrea came over on the 14th and stayed until January 2nd. We spent a lot of time shopping, wrapping gifts, drinking lovely red wines, listening to music, going out with friends, having nice meals in, watching movies and just spending time together talking, which was fantastic. We went to see the Kaiser Chiefs the very first night Andrea arrived (way to beat the jet lag, Sis!), the ticket for which was my Christmas present from her. How great is she?!
We had Christmas at our place this year for the first time, to celebrate having our new house. We got up at 7am, while it was still dark outside, and did the Davis tradition of lighting candles, making coffee and toast, putting on Christmas music and then digging into the gifts. Amelia had so many to open that it ended up taking her all day and night to finish unwrapping them. Every time she opened another fun toy she would run off with it and ignore all the others! My mom and dad (Lyn & Jim) got up in the middle of the night in Indiana so they could 'be' with us on the webcam and watch us and Amelia open our gifts. Isn't it amazing that technology allows us virtually into each other's living rooms now? I don't know how people moved away from their families before email, cheap long distance calls, instant messaging, websites and webcams came along.
After we opened about half of the gifts and said goodbye to Mom and Dad, I made blueberry pancakes from scratch and some turkey bacon. After breakfast, we got busy showering, tidying up and prepping for the big Christmas lunch/dinner. Pat and Bruce arrived at 1pm with appetizers for us to nibble on while lunch was cooking. We had some bubbly and snacks while Paul and I took turns checking on the food and taking things in and out of the oven. We opened a few gifts and then sat down to eat at about 4pm. We had a turkey (cooked with fresh lemons and rosemary), mashed potatoes, roasted honey-dijon parsnips (a British tradition), green beans, asparagus casserole (from the Davis traditional Christmas dinner), stuffing and pigs-in-blankets (also a British tradition). It was delicious, if I do say so myself! A little later we had coffees and a dessert of mince pies with brandy butter (for Bruce and Paul) and a chocolate tart (which us ladies ate). Once Amelia had gone to bed for the evening and we were feeling less stuffed, we played a game of cards called Newmarket, which we play every year on Christmas, and had our cheese and fruit course -- brie and stilton, served with crackers and red and green grapes. Pat and Bruce left at about 11pm and we went to bed shortly after. It was a great but tiring day.
We hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas with their loved ones and wish we could've visited with more of our relatives. We didn't send Christmas cards this year but know that we were thinking of you all.
